Zurich – Test planning can contribute to higher quality in spatial planning. The Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects has now developed corresponding guidelines, which will be incorporated into the body of standards this year.

Test planning involves developing solutions for complex tasks, launching a learning process for all parties involved and enabling joint strategies, according to the Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects (SIA). Idea studies are developed during test planning, though they do not lead to a follow-up contract; instead, all parties involved work together and are fully compensated for their efforts.

Test planning is used in spatial planning, for example when planning an urban centre. It can be used to develop various solutions that can then compared with each other. The best solutions and concepts are then selected from those.

“Test planning is particularly successful in forward-looking development tasks with a high potential,” explains the SIA. Test planning can also create added value for all parties involved.

The SIA has now formulated new test planning guidelines, which will be converted into a leaflet by the end of this year. The guidelines will be included in the body of standards, “giving them the standard they deserve as a planning tool”.
